Gilahina Trestle Bridge, McCarthy Road, Alaska

Built during the winter of 1911 in only eleven days, this 270 meter long, 30 meter high curved timber trestle was the last and most difficult wooden bridge built between Chitina and Kennicott, Alaska. It was part of the Copper River and Northwestern Railway (CR&NW) route and connected the mining town of Kennicott with Chitina. It continued to the port of Valdez, where nearly $200 million worth of copper ore was shipped to the lower 49.
